Despite its simplistic visual appearance, Coconut Dodge has already impressed the PlayStation community, and ranked up incredible reviews with its addicting gameplay, intuitive controls, and seemingly endless hours of fun throughout its 30 levels. Initial stages of the game are easy enough to complete, but the pace is quickly increased, and it will not take long before you find yourself in a crab load of trouble! The premise is simple: avoid the coconuts, collect everything else. Collecting gold tokens give you 100 points, diamonds 400 points, rubies 800 points, and gold bars are worth an astonishing 1000 points.

Power-Ups are an important part of the game: On occasion a beach ball labeled with a number will fall from the sky, and if you successfully manage to prevent the ball from impacting with the ground as it bounces around the screen (and with each bounce the number decreases), you unlock a reward that ranges from extra points to temporarily slowing down the coconuts.

Coconut Dodge features two modes of play. The default mode is ideal for casual players interested in a quick and fun “game-on-the-go”; the Maze Master mode is primarily targeted at the hardcore audience willing to explore each level to its fullest by applying strategy, wits, and perseverance on a quest to reach a specific number of points before the end of each level. In this mode there is a specific pattern of movement that can be memorized and mastered with enough experience and quick thinking, and this is where Coconut Dodge really excels: beneath its visually simple façade is a hard nut to crack as the game is loaded with addicting and varied gameplay.  The in-game tutorial is highly recommended to all audiences as it explains the various Power-Ups and their use within the game.

A cut-down version of the full game, this downloadable demo will allow players to enjoy a several seconds of Half-Minute Hero action. Oh, we’re joking: the demo boasts a selection of missions from the final game, each showcasing a different type of challenge from this innovative quick-fire RPG.

The full game is on track to hit retail on 12th February 2010, exclusively on PSP.

Half-Minute Hero, from respected developer Marvelous Entertainment, takes the RPG genre to another level, challenging you to save the world in just 30 seconds. The game has already generated quite a buzz, with people clamouring to get their hands on it ahead of launch.

Half-Minute Hero is perfect for a society used to consuming information in bite-sized chunks, but completing each level is so satisfying, you won’t want to put it down. With over 100 missions – not to mention multiplayer options – and over 20 hours of gameplay, there’s plenty to keep you occupied.

At the start of each level a Dark Lord places a new obstacle in the way of our Hero’s progress, while puzzles are solved, you must also level up to ‘You > Evil’ status to stand a chance of defeating their nemesis.

Currency in the game is earned by slaying enemies and used to upgrade weapons, outfits and accessories, hire assistance and replenish the clock by ‘praying’ to the Time Goddess. But beware; the more you ‘buy back’ time, the higher the price – it certainly pays to complete its level in the shortest time possible.

Consistently praised by critics around the world, Half-Minute Hero has generated average review scores of 84% on Metacritic and 85% on GameRankings, and the European release is destined to further swell these ratings.

The Half-Minute Hero Hero Mode demo will be available for download from the PlayStation Network on 4^thFebruary. The full version of the games launches a week later on 12^th February.

The next official chapter in the story of Naked Snake (a.k.a. Big Boss), METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER is a stunning stealth-action title, set shortly after the events of METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER, and drops the user into a 70s Cold War scenario. As interest continues to grow in this stunning new title from series creator Hideo Kojima, he and his Tokyo-based Kojima Productions team have also revealed several key new elements to be found in the game.

The first major reveal is the Mother Base offshore plant, which acts as a hub for items and personnel collected within the game. During the course of METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER, users can recruit felled adversaries and transport them to the Mother Base sea rig by using the Fulton Recovery System. Recruited soldiers each have unique attributes that allow them to support Snake and other characters in a variety of ways. By gathering more staff, players will be able to expand Mother Base and gain access to new functions. Mother Base alsoacts as a development area for Snake, where weapons can be upgraded or collated information used to create all-new armaments.

METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER also introduces new AI Weapons – giant unmanned behemoths that Snake must overcome to complete his mission. These include hover, airborne,and tank-style vehicles. Each AI Weapon can talk and even sing during battle using VOCALOID technology, hinting at a surprising level of intelligence and a deeper role in the game’s intricate plot.

Finally, Kojima Productions has also confirmed the PSP™ game will boast extensive multi-player elements, allowing four-player co-operative missions, and a stunning three-against-three battle royale, wherein six players can form teams and engage in huge linked battles via the Sony handheld’s Ad Hoc capabilities. Further details will be released shortly, with Kojima Productions looking to the ever-popular METAL GEAR ONLINE for inspiration.

METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER adds a wealth of new elements to the popular stealth series, with players giving CPR to felled colleagues, battling huge boss adversaries and enjoying another twisting plot that will surprise and thrill in equal measure. The story continues in May…

In TV and film, it’s a well-worn cliché: This message will self-destruct in 30 seconds. But in the land of bloated videogames, size – it is sometimes claimed – matters. Half-Minute Hero goes completely against the grain: in each level, the hero must save the world, 30 seconds at a time.

A homage to a bygone era, Half-Minute Hero fuses old-school visuals with a modern-day twist. In each level, a Dark Lord discovers a new way to destroy our Hero’s world: he must solve a series of puzzles and level-up enough to defeat the massive end-of-level boss. In 30 seconds. Every time.

Of course, there are certain mechanics to extend our Hero’s lifespan. Worshiping the Goddess of Time at certain locations – for a fee, of course – can replenish the clock, but only up to a maximum of 30 seconds. Levelling up – the old RPG staple, though this time possible every few seconds – allows our Hero to plough through combat more quickly – but only when the legend “You > Evil” appears does he stand a realistic chance of defeating the level’s Dark Lord.

Four different gaming styles and in-game characters combine to offer tremendous variety. Blazing shooters, escort missions and quick-witted strategy will all play a part in the game’s 100-plus missions – and then there’s the multiplayer options which cater for up to four Half-Minute Heroes at a time (ad hoc mode).

Half-Minute Hero is genuinely one of the most inventive games around, and impossible – as proved by science – to play without grinning.

Visually, it’s a love-letter to 8-bit classics, with gorgeous exaggerated sprites running around fantastic top-down and side-on visuals, just like the games they used to make. Lush hand-drawn interludes bring the graphics bang up to date between chapters, whilst the script buzzes and fizzes with fanboyisms.

At odds with its title, Half-Minute Hero is a real monster, offering around 20 hours of gameplay. The key difference is that each section is divided into bite-size chunks – so you can play for as long as little as you like: while away an evening, or have a blast when you’re on the bus.

“Despite being firmly grounded in the fantasy RPG mould, Half-Minute Hero is a game unlike any other,” says Martin Defries, managing director, Rising Star Games. “It’s impossible to play without a massive grin on your face. The new games draw from the developer’s heritage, bringing two titles based on classic Indian strategy games to a global audience, alongside a game which takes players on a trip along America’s most famous highway.

With origins dating back to 4AD, Pachisi is Indian’s national board game. GameShastra’s version is steeped in heritage, offering a perfect recreation of this absorbing strategy game equally playable on PSP and PS3. Simple to learn, yet difficult to master, the fact Pachisi remains one of India’s most popular strategy board games over two thousand years since its introduction speaks volumes about its core mechanics – perfectly recreated here, with sophisticated AI offering a challenge to players of all abilities.

Tiger Trouble, also available for PSP and PlayStation 3, is another strategy board game recreation – though this time based on a Nepalese pastime. The game offers two perspectives: playing as tigers, the objective is to kill seven out of t15 goats; when playing as goats, players must trap the three tigers. Offering unique strategies depending on the side being played, it’s a game of limitless possibilities, and one which has been developed with obvious affection for the original board game.

Finally, Route 66 offers a change of pace. A hidden-object game set along America’s “mother highway”, it’s a game best played casually, with ample time to admire the stunning artwork and historical facts whilst hunting for the items deviously-placed within each lavish scene.

“We’re delighted to be bringing two traditional strategy board games to a wider global audience,” says Prakash Ahuja, CEO, GameShastra Inc. “These games are steeped in history, and have provided the building blocks upon which strategy games continue to be built, and hopefully both Pachisi and Tiger Trouble will introduce a new generation of players to these traditional games.

“Our third title, Route 66, is based on a hugely popular online game, which has already been played by millions of casual players. By bringing them to both PSP and PlayStation 3, we’re offering a choice: enjoy on the big screen, or in the palm of your hand.”

Pachisi, Tiger Trouble and Route 66 are all available now for PSP and PlayStation 3 through PSN, pricing dependent on region. They join the firm’s D-Cube Planet and Circles, which were released in November 2009.
