For a game that is as cheap as Doodle Jump on the iPhone, I’ve played it more than most games I have on the PC, Xbox and PS3 – it cost me 59p at the time and it is as simple a game as it can be. The idea is simple, the graphics are simple, yet there is something about it that makes you want to keep on playing it over and over.

Doodle Jump is an amazingly fun and addictive platform jumping game fro the iPhone/iPod Touch that lets you compete against other players around the world.

Jump as high as you can! Shoot monsters, avoid broken platforms, black holes, and UFOs.

So for a game so simple what makes it so addictive? Well the reason is as simple as the game, you always want to beat your highest score and either brag about it via the leaderboards or post it to facebook so that your friends can see if they can overtake you. Even if  you are rubbish at it like me, you still want to keep going. So how does it work? Well all you do is tilt your iPhone/iPod side to side to move your character left or right – he always jumps a certain height and it is up to you to try and reach the platforms above you.

Doodle Jump 1

This may sound easy, but along the way you will come across platforms thatwill break after you jump on them once, monsters that will try and kill you if you jump into them and black holes that will make you disappear. All the time this is happening, you are bouncing around like a mad thing trying to make it up to the next platform. Graphically the game is very simple but effective, it looks like a simple notepad with doodles drawn on it, hence the name of the game, it looks excellent though and the art design is great. Leaderboards keep it fresh as does the posting of your scores to facebook.

Doodle Jump 2

You can’t fault Doodle Jump – it is cheap, cheerful and despite being simple, it has a lot of replay value as you will always want to beat your scores. Add in the amount of free updates that are adding small new features to the game like jetpads and you have a game that is well worth buying on the App store
