With the Game Of The Year edition settling out there and Fallout 3 now collecting dust, here are five reasons to fire it back on.  These are rarely encountered (or unmarked) side-quests and locations that bring out the scale and richness of the Fallout 3 universe.

While most RPG developers such as Bioware tend to focus on the story, Bethesda tends to focus on the environment. While there is a main quest, its the vast virtual world that is the true story. This means an unbelievably expansive and immersive gaming world. Unfortunately as a side effect of this expanse, a lot of areas and stories are completely missed in the hundreds of gaming hours offered.

So, Techulous is here to help you out :) . These are 5 unique and fun quests you may not have encountered. Each is worth your time to explore. Each entry contains a map, and a fallout wiki link (which contains spoilers!). We recommend you avoid using the wiki link until absolutely necessary, but the wikia fallout 3 site is fantastic! Lots of backstory and notes, so do visit it when you are done.

5. Agatha’s Song / Vault 92

This is really about Vault 92, but you can get the quest queued up by finding and talking to Agatha. The quest involves the love of music, and a very creepy vault experience.

4. Gold Ribbon Grocers

Found deep into the DC Metro Area is a lone surviving building amongst some rubble. Inside you will find a crazy Rube-Goldberg contraption which uses the game’s fantastic physics engine. What is a Rube Goldberg contraption? You remember the game Mouse Trap? It is basically an insanely complicated (but feasible) machine to perform something mundane. Your goal is to set off the machine properly. Imagine boxes of detergent falling like dominoes and you get the idea.

3. Shalebridge

This is an unusual quest in that there is no dialog. You simply encounter two rival ant colonies, one friendly and one not. You can help the friendly variant by battling the aggressive (fire) ants. Enjoy the out-of-the-ordinary experience.

2. Election Day

Way in a corner of the massive Fallout 3 world you will find a lone sovereign nation, the Republic Of Dave. The whole idea is hilarious and has a funny backstory. You don’t need to do the quest to enjoy the humor of Republic of Dave.

1. Oasis

One of the most deranged, freaky, and funny experiences in Fallout 3 is the town (and quest of same name) Oasis. It is very difficult to find. Some rare encounters in the game will provide the location on your map for you, but if not you can find it using the map image below. Note that the village is completely surrounded by rock walls from high cliffs with a single path curving amongst walls of stone, so take your time when looking and approach from the South West (if memory serves).

Oasis pulls together a unique FEV (Forced Evolutionary Virus) story line. Oasis is also described by Three Dog over the radio, though he confesses he might have had too much Jet at the time. You will instantly recall the Three Dog story we are hinting at once you see the town.

This is the top dog side quest, folks! You gotta do this quest just for the concept and imagery.
